Good morning, again!
IT’S NOW THE 19TH of the month, with today’s payment of $5,800 due. Thanks to contributions received over the past three days, the amount needed by 5 p.m. has now been reduced to $3,477. Thank you very much to everyone for making that so! The fact is that whether fast or slow, together we will do it — as in everything!
The learning everyone is faced with, both here and around the globe, is that independence, self-sufficiency and isolation does not result in “greatness,” safety, or Brotherhood. And the greatest learning is that only Brotherhood brings Peace because only Peace — defenselessness — nurtures and allows for Brotherhood to return. And why is Brotherhood important? Because “Sonship” is inseparable from it — the undoing of the divorce from the Father. The Fall!

DON’T BE FOOLED! Everyone is being faced with an “ultimate” deception, which appears to simply be a call for self-protection from something contagious. An innocent enough idea! Intelligent, even! But the fact is that it creates a justification and requirement for attitudes, behavior, and actions to be actively employed — backed up by the power of fear — which would destroy the fabric of society, by turning unity, itself, into an ultimate and actual threat to one’s existence.
Again: Do not be fooled! Do not be foolish! Catch this right now and correct it in your perception right now!
“Intelligent” self-protection involves the use of whatever it takes in order to be safe — and at the bottom line, that means in order to STAY ALIVE. Self-protection is adversarial, and fear will justify anything except promoting peace. Peace is nowhere on its agenda.
Here it is in black and white: The suggestion is being aggressively promoted that something contagious “is going around” which is so contagious that one must employ extremes to protect himself. Without challenging the suggestion, but letting one’s mind be mesmerized by it, one “owns” it as his and willingly becomes defended — defensive — and loses his conscious experience of peace.
Unwittingly deceived, one begins to protect what? His body, which he sees as “himself.” Another misidentification which compounds the deception, since he is Mind, in which the conscious experience of body is occurring.
Follow this carefully, because it leads where one does not expect . . . and that is the nature of deception. If one has abandoned the conscious experience of being the Mind in which all things are being experienced, and sees himself as a body with a brain, of which the mind is a product, then this will be his perception of every other individual as well.
And the Fall has happened!
Now, although the contagion is what calls for self-protection, it is the body which seems to be the “carrier,” and as such, it becomes the object to be defended against! And because you think your body is you, it is inevitable that your defense against your brother’s body is a defense against him — at least in the ignorance of one’s mesmerized state of mind, that is the belief embraced and acted upon.
None of it is true, but no light bulbs have gone on to call the suggestion into question, making room for sanity to return and change the behavior. But calling the suggestion into question and making room for sanity to return is what I am doing right now.
Deluded, without knowing it, the self-protection of one who thinks he is a body, becomes protection against every other body on the globe. And, as I said, “intelligent” self protection justifies whatever it takes to stay alive.
Life cannot be lived this way. Business cannot happen this way. Families cannot form and grow this way. But the deception will dominate until solitude becomes unbearable. And at that point one will have to venture forth from his bubble of self-protection and let others get inside where the bubble was, and risk the chance that there is a God.
Embrace will have to melt the armor which was really hate, doing “a work” of destruction behind your back while it had you “just protecting yourself.”
You know, fearlessness, Peace, is a permanent foundational element of the experience of Being. You could say, “In the beginning was Peace. And the Peace was with God. And the Peace was God.” In that Peace all of God’s Sons and Daughters were One, without distance from each other, Whole and safe.
While there are thoughts of sin, sickness or death that mesmerize the attention, creating perceptions of partiality, separation, guilt, competition and fear, they never become real, nor do they ever become legitimate justification for creating walls.
Sin, sickness and death will be dispelled because they were nothing more than mesmeric suggestions, false beliefs, misperceptions of the only thing going on — God and His Creation, Mind and Its visibility and tangibility.
This is why the Course says, “[You are] not a body. [You] are still free, to be as God created [Thee].” You are not bodiless, but you are not a body. What you call your body is the visibility and tangibility of your Individuality — which is your Mind. The Course also says, “[Your] mind is part of God’s. [You] are very holy.”
This is the antidote to the lie which is aggressively being whispered in your mind, suggesting that you abandon your brother for the sake of your personal safety, and do it at his expense so that he doesn’t do anything at yours. But Brotherhood isn’t about cost! It’s about Brotherhood! It’s about Brotherhood! It’s about Brotherhood!
It’s about Brothers without borders. It’s about you and me without borders. And what that ultimately means is Brothers without authority, because “Thy will, not mine be done” has replaced the source of dissonance — the personal authority which has only one use, defense of one’s “position” and defense against another’s — and His Will replaces the evidence of dissonance as well.
This is the miracle, the sudden shift of perception. Peace restored. Free of the mesmerism, peace becomes your goal, and the law is that when you make peace your goal, everything begins to look like peace — the “physical evidence” of dissonance vanishes as well! Wholeness is ours!
Seriously and soberly question whether it is more important to you to love your neighbor as yourself because you’re yielding to God, or to be so self-defended that you will participate without objection to letting cities and businesses and camaraderie shut down and destroy the economy throughout the world.
There needs to be a miracle! A miracle caused by a mutual realization that the abandonment of involvement and caring will never be the solution to the problem of independence and private self-protection.
The truth is that every Son and Daughter of God is constantly being replenished with what the Father is being, each one bathed in Life Itself — so long as he doesn’t stop to have a little dream and become unconscious of it.
The Course says, “an idea never leaves its source,” and I might add that God’s Son never desires to leave his source. So the illusion must happen by trickery or foolery — or more correctly, one must be tricked or fooled into believing that an illusion has occurred, when it hasn’t. It’s called aggressive mental suggestion, and the key lies in recognizing the attempt at deception the moment it occurs.
I will end for now with the reminder that it may appear that what is called for is self-protection, but what is really being called for is the recognition of the essential requirement of protecting the whole by refusing to separate and isolate, by refusing to defend oneself against the necessary integrating cohesion of engaging in unity.
Don’t be fooled into dis-integrating everything by ignoring the part you are playing in it. You are nothing by yourself! I am nothing by myself. And God does not exist without us. To attempt to establish a social distance is to attempt to be something “by yourself,” and that is the actual unconscious contagious belief that is “going around.”
Shorten the time of needless suffering by remembering now how much we all need each other. And don’t let go of that need. Put forth whatever effort it will take to find ways to reestablish and strengthen unity, integrity, involvement and Brotherly love.
