The Presence of Attention

Dear friends,
PERSISTENCE IN GIVING VOICE to the Voice for Truth is not the means by which to gain and exercise control over circumstances or one’s fellow man. It is, instead, the means of cooperating with, deferring to and yielding control to God, here and now, in the practicalities of daily life. It is to be in a constant state of inquiry . . . not by asking leading questions, but by the practice of silence, wherein something called “Attention” is forever present as the ground of being. Attention is another word for “curiosity,” the inevitable result of which is “delight” — the Joy of Being!
It is when one alters everpresent “Attention” by abandoning silence and giving directions to his attention . . . by becoming the “director” of it . . . that the “ground of being” seems to be overridden and imagination takes over. “Perceptions” replace the divinely natural silent Awareness which is, Itself, the “act” of co-creation, and Creation is obscured.
When this happens, the Son of God has gone “into a far land,” wasting his inheritance — which means, ignoring his Birthright, but not losing it — until he arrives at the point of being willing to become still once again, abandoning the “right” to direct things by asking and answering questions on his own.
It is this act of “originating” . . . of “filling the silence” with “mental activity” . . . which is the definition of “imagination.” And this means that “imagination” itself, is IMAGINARY! It is the divorce from the Father, called the Fall. But in actuality, it is simply the choice made to indulge in a day-dream, preferring to disengage from actually paying Attention to what is happening — Creation — and, in a state of reverie, being “out of your Mind.”
This “creates” a “sense of self” different from the Self which is pure Awareness — the presence of Attention in which the Movement of God is experienced, the “recognition” of God in the Movement occurs, co-creation completes the Movement, the delight and Joy of reunification is restored, and the Prodigal returns Home. Atonement happens!
What make it difficult is that this “sense of self” is what everyone is familiar with, and “thinking for oneself” is all everyone knows! Not only is it almost impossible to believe that one can be conscious without thinking — which is the first step of meditation — it is even more unbelievable that in the silence, if it is not interfered with, a natural and spontaneous shift occurs, in which the universal Unknown becomes Known, and that conscious experience of Being is the normal state of Being, in which, for lack of better words, the Father’s “perspective” becomes yours, and you are free of the temptation to ever initiate a perspective of your very own again.
Why am I discussing this instead of addressing the need at hand? Why am I not discussing the “practicalities of daily life,” the potential problems associated with the need, the distress the ego associates with its limited perspective? Because the “need” and its associated complications will never be the answer to the need! The need is simply the momentum for needs met.
Correctly understood, “need” calls for the mind to become still in order to experience whatever the shift is that justifies allowing “needs met” to be met! The issue isn’t paying the bill. The issue is extending the Truth — giving voice to the Voice for Truth. The need must be met, but not because of “consequences”! It must be met because meeting it serves the extension of Love which is the invitation to the shifts of consciousness called miracles, the reestablishment of Brotherhood, and the consequent Atonement which is where all of this is leading.
